Like all the best museums in Poland, Wrocław's Archaeological Museum is located inside a building that's a museum in itself. In this instance the city's former 15th-century Arsenal plays host to the usual suspects found lurking in most museums of its type. Annoyingly, everything is labelled only in Polish making navigation awkward, but many of the exhibits, such as the gargoyles, ancient musical instruments carved out of tiny twigs and the reconstructed thatched house all fascinate without the need to know more. Of particular interest is Kantor David's gravestone, dated 1203 and believed to be the oldest Jewish tomb in Poland, and an excellent model of Ostrow Tumski as it was in the 12th century. Admission 7/5zł. Wed free.
Opening hours: Wed - Sat 11 - 17, Sun 10 - 18, on Monday the museum is closed.
